You can freely browse the shelves (which you go to yourself), although some documents (such as older journals, gray literature or any audiovisual resources) have to be requested at the Library’s main desk. You can move freely with books within the library but please do not exceed the security antennas placed at the entrance. You should leave books or journals on the desks once you finish using them.

The items on the shelves are arranged by subject according to the UDC - Universal Decimal Classification. This classification divides knowledge into 10 main classes hierarchically subdivided into more specific classes:

0 Science and Knowledge. Organization. Computer Science. Information.
1  Philosophy. Psychology.
2 Religion. Theology.
3 Social Sciences
4 [Reserved for future  development]                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  5 Mathematics. Natural Sciences.
6 Applied Sciences. Medicine. Technology.
7 The Arts, Recreation, Entertainment, Sport.
8 Language. Linguistics. Literature.
9 Geography. Biography. History.

Numbers and common punctuation marks are used in the UDC in order to be universal and independent of the language of the document.

The classification is based on the decimal system , ie , the classes are designed as expressions of a decimal ( 0.11111 ) fraction but with zero and omitted comma and classes punctuated every three digits for easy reading ( 111.11 ).

The UDC is structured in such a way that new developments and new fields of knowledge can be readily incorporated (the creation of the class 111.111 by adding 1 to the class of subclass 111.11 does not alter the fact that the latter lies after the class 111.10 and before class 111.12).

A practical example is the class of 631.589, which corresponds to the description of "Culture by artificial methods", which is not very enlightening if you do not consider their hierarchy and their descriptions:
                 Applied Sciences ...Technology.
63              Agriculture. Forestry, Etc.
631            Agriculture in general.
631.5       Work and agricultural methods.
631.58    Systems culture.
631 589 Culture by artificial methods.

The periodicals are arranged alphabetically by titles.
